Abstract

601,569. Loading vehicles. SHELVOKE & DREWRY, Ltd., and EDWARDS, C. K. Dec. 7, 1945, No. 33178. [Class 78 (iv)] In a refuse collecting or like vehicle having means for hoisting containers, conveying them along the length of the vehicle and discharging their contents into the body of the vehicle, means are provided for tipping the containers at any one of a number of selected points along the length of the vehicle. Tipping means comprises an arm 40 on a bracket 50 which can be mounted at any one of a number of different points. The arm 40 normally rests on pin 42 and engages with a projection 44 on the container 10 to tip it. When this occurs the power is cut off and when the drive is reversed the part 48 engages the axle and the container is rotated until it is upright. The containers are hoisted by means of a pair of cables 20 attached to axles 16 and passing round pulley 26 and connected to endless conveying chains 24 passing over pulleys 28 and 30, rollers 18 on the axles 16 contacting rails 36 on channel 38. Front sprockets are driven by motor 32 which can be hand controlled by lever 60, through rod 63. A shoe 66 striking collar 67 stops the motor automatically when the container reaches the ground. In a modification the container is held inside a frame or cradle 70, the cables are attached to the frame by axles 16. The container 10 has a channel member welded along one side into which hooks attached to the frame are locked.
