601,327. Buckles. QUILTER, J. R. C. Oct. 1, 1945, No. 25422. [Class 43] In a frictional locking buckle for a strap 14 which passes over a rigid part 15 of a frame 13 and round a parallel sliding bar 11, its tension holding the bar towards the side 15 with the free end 16 of the strap gripped between it and the bar, the .latter has extremital shoes 17 which are longer than the diameter of the bar and which slide along the ends 18 of the frame, a guide member 12 with which the opposite faces of the shoes make contact being attached to the frame. The guide member 12 is a metal shell or stamping shaped to correspond to the two sides 18 and the end 26 of the rectangular buckle frame 13; each end of the guide member is L-shaped one flange 20 being riveted to the end 18 of the frame, the other 22 being spaced therefrom so that parallel slots 23 are formed for the shoes 17 which are integral with the bar. The shoes are preferably slightly offset from the axis of the bar, which is thus maintained partly within the opening of the frame 13 and is prevented from falling out of position before the strap is inserted. The centre part of the guide member 12 may be of Z-section: one flange 30 is continuous with the end flanges 22, being inclined to accommodate correspondingly bevelled ends of the shoes 17; the web 25 is riveted to the lower side 26 of the frame 13, and the outwardly projecting flange 28 is slotted at 29 for attachment of the buckle to a support. The slotted attachment may be dispensed with by using the upper side 15 of the frame 13 for attachment purposes, the adjustable strap being looped round the bar 11 in such a way that the shoes 17 are drawn down towards the side 26 of the frame. The frame 13 is rounded internally, but its ends 18 and side 26 are sharp-cornered externally to provide a firm seating for the guide member 12; the external end faces 18 may be stepped at 32 to accommodate the ends of the guide member flanges 20.
