1,066,740. Buckles. H. KOCH & SONS Inc. March 2, 1966 No. 9149/66. Heading E2A. An adjustable strap connector comprises a frame 1 having sides 2 and transverse members 3, 4, 6 defining a strap-receiving opening, a strap gripping member 7 extending across the frame and having a recess 8 therein facing one of the transverse members, the recess 8 being defined by spaced parallel walls 9, 11 one of which is higher than the other, whereby when a free end 26 of a strap 16 is inserted from the higher wall 11 1 under the gripping member 7 and then around the lower wall 9 and between the top of the higher wall 11 and the adjacent transverse member 4 and then out along a captive end of the strap 16, the pull on the strap exerts a gripping force against the higher wall 11 so as to tilt the gripping member 7 and press the higher wall 11 towards the adjacent transverse member 4 for gripping the free end 26 of the strap with a force proportional to the load on the captive end of the strap 16. As shown, the gripping member 7 is biassed towards the member 4 by a spring loaded follower 21 carried by a member 17 which straddles the transverse member 6.
