Abstract

1,027,602. Buckles. A. G. CARTER and H. G. ALOFS. May 22, 1963 [May 3, 1962], No. 20357/63. Heading E2A. A buckle comprises a channel shaped frame 10 provided with aligned slots 22 in the opposite sides 23, 24 thereof and first and second bars 14, 15 for securing a belt each bar having end-extensions 18, 19 and 20, 21 of reduced thickness engaging said slots the first bar being initially receivable between said sides for engagement of said end-extensions with said slots only in inclined relationship and with the second bar absent, the bar being movable after said engagement into perpendicular relationship with the sides and so that thereafter it is movable in a direction parallel to the sides to clamp the belt against the second bar, the second bar being initially receivable between said frame sides in the presence of the first bar for engagement of the second bar end-extensions with the slots, only in inclined relationship with the sides and accompanied by outward deflection of the sides the second bar being - movable after said engagement into perpendicular relationship with the sides. The engagement of the end-extensions with the slots in inclined relationship is possible because the faces at the junction of the end extensions with the central portion of each bar are also inclined. When the second bar is in perpendicular relationship and at one end of the slots, portions 29 of the bar snap into engagement with recesses 28 to fix the bar in position. The first bar 15 is sufficiently long so that it can be moved by grasping the protruding end-extensions 18, 19 between the thumb and forefinger to enable the belt to be released.
