Abstract
600,884. Valve amplifiers. SNEATH, O. B. Nov. 21, 1945, No. 31404. [Class 40 (vi)] A two-stage cascade amplifier (Fig. 1) utilizes a single multi-grid valve which has input signals (from microphone 8) fed to the inner control grid 2, while grid 3 acts as a first anode which is coupled by capacitor 13 to the second control grid 4 lying external to grids 2 and 3. Screen grid 5 is connected to the gridanode 3 and the output is taken from the final anode 7 which has load 15 high relative to the grid-anode load 10. Resistor 14 provides negative feed-back between the " anodes " of each stage. With heptodes without an internal grid-cathode connection, the grids may be selected to provide a screen grid between the inner control grid and the grid-anode, while multi-grid valves with a separate triode section may have the inner control grids of each section strapped together and the triode anode connected to the cathode or grid-anode of the first amplifying stage. A pentode valve may be used in which a close-meshed outer control grid replaces the conventional suppressor grid.
