Abstract
600,491. Washing-machines. WALKER, CROSWELLER, & CO., Ltd., and WALKER, R. F. Sept. 8, 1945, No. 23200. [Class 138(ii)] [Also in Group XVIII] A system for supplying two or more dissimilar liquids to a laundry washing- machine 1 comprises a separate fixed supply pipe 3, 4 for each of the liquids, a stop-cock 6, 8 and one member 7, 9 of a quick-release coupling on each supply pipe, a fixed delivery pipe 11 opening into the machine 1, and a length of flexible hose or pipe 10 which is coupled at one end to the said delivery pipe 11 and at its other end is provided with a quick-release coupling member capable of being coupled to the coupling member 7, 9 of whichever of the supply pipes it is desired to use. The supply pipes 3, 4, which are fitted with strainers 5, may be used, respectively, for sea water and salt water, and the pipe 10 may be connected through a quick-release coupling 12 to a non-return valve 13 provided near the inlet of the pipe 11. An automatic mixing valve 14, which may be constructed as described in Specifications 497,608, 498,244, 506,292 and 545,555, [all in Group XXIX], is provided at the inlet of the pipe 11 and has a connection with a steam supply pipe 15 provided with a stop-cock 16. A thermometer 17 is provided on the outlet side of the valve 14. If desired, steam may be admitted direct to the receptacle 1 through a by-pass pipe 18 having a stop-cock 19. Where the apparatus comprises more than one machine as shown in the drawing, a delivery pipe 11, 11a is provided for each receptacle and suitable branches are provided on the liquid and steam pipes.
