Abstract
Textile goods are treated with alkaline solutions in a J-shoot characterised by the features that the goods are impregnated with alkali, passed down the J-shoot to form a bulk of packed goods in the shoot, the shoot is <PICT:0600444/IV (c)/1> heated in the straight part of the J, and a washing solution is made to flow through the curved part of the J to remove the impurities and to cause the goods to be buoyed up and so easier to remove. In a particular embodiment shown, a rope of goods 10 is impregnated with alkali in tank 11, passed through rollers 12 to remove surplus alkali and down into the J-shoot 17 over a piler 14. Steam is admitted through steam chest 20 to heat the goods in the shoot. As the goods pass to the curved portion of the shoot, they pass into a stream of water admitted through inlet 22 which flows past the goods and out of outlet 26. Specification 576,030 is referred to.
