[Class 108 (iii)] A device for creating a resistance in an hydraulic circuit consists of at least one cylindrical vortex-forming chamber provided with at least one tangential orifice 6 and an axial orifice 7. As applied to a single-acting shockabsorber, Fig. 1, having a piston 2 slidable in a liquid-filled cylinder 1 with a reservoir 4, the piston 2 is formed with an internal chamber 21 communicating with the left-hand end of the cylinder 1 by the tangentially disposed orifice 6, Fig. 2. In a construction of double-acting shock-absorber (Fig. 3, not shown), two vortex chambers 2<SP>1</SP> are provided, corresponding to each direction of flow. In a further construction (Figs. 4-7, not shown), the vortexes are developed in an external passage connecting the respective ends of the cylinder. This passage includes a plurality of vortex chambers connected in series and each formed by a flanged disc having a central axial orifice and a tangential orifice formed in the flange.
