600,097. Work-tables. BULLOWS & SONS, Ltd., A., and BOYCE, G. B. Sept. 27, 1945, No. 25116. [Class 83 (iii)] A work table is rotatably mounted on a circular track on a slide supported on base and the table, slide and base can be clamped together in any desired relative positions by fluid-operated means. Within the slide b is a cylinder d containing a pair of flexible diaphragms e, f, the upper diaphragm e being supported by a two-part disc g having a hollow plunger h extending through a gland i, and the lower diaphragm f being supported by a similar disc j with a plunger k passing through a gland m. Fluid pressure controlled by appropriate valves is supplied above the upper diaphragm and below the lower diaphragm through connections n. A port x passing through the plunger h connects the disc g to the table c and similarly a post q connects the disc j to a collar r sliding in a slot s in the base. Three equi-spaced rollers w carried on plungers u supported by springs v in sockets t in. the slide bear on the underside of the table and four similar rollers z are arranged in the base a and bear on the slide. When no fluid pressure acts on the diaphragms, the table and slide are supported on the rollers and are freely movable but when pressure is supplied to both halves of the cylinder the table is clamped to the slide and the slide to the base. If only one of the parts is to be clamped, pressure may be applied only to the appropriate half of the cylinder.
