In a surgical table with an adjustable sectional top carried by a vertically adjustable pedestal, all adjustments are effected hydraulically by double-acting rams controlled by a master valve 140, Fig. 2, having a selector knob 154 and dial 144, whereby the desired circuit valves are opened to enable the parts to assume any one of a number of predetermined conventional operating positions when a handle 161, Fig. 1, is operated which controls the supply and direction of the pressure fluid, and also; in one modification, the speed of actuation. A base 11 encloses a motor 22, pump 23, and fluid reservoir 20 and also a foot pump normally operating hydraulic on-and-off castors, but also usable as an emergency pump for table adjustment. A fixed ram 34, 35, Fig. 1, carries the pedestal cylinder 36 and on the pedestal head is universally mounted for hydraulic actuation a frame 42 carrying the table sections. The back 45 and seat section 48 are pivoted to an intermediate section 46 with a separately liftable kidney bridge 47, and the leg section 49 is pivoted to the seat section. Compound cylinders 58, 66 swing the back section 45 and the intermediate section 46 is raised or lowered by cylinders 91 having hollow piston rods which form cylinders for the rams of the kidney bridge. Single cylinder rams 77, 107 swing the seat and leg sections respectively. The valve mechanism is that described in Specification 728,094, [Group XXIX]. Clamps G are provided on the seat section for mounting a knee crutch support and are such as are described in. U.S.A. Specification 2,622,831.
