Abstract

691,349. Bedsteads; operating tables. ELECTRONIC & X-RAY APPLICATIONS, Ltd., and TUNNICLIFFE, E. A. J. Sept. 29; 1950 [June 29, 1949], No. 17262/49. Classes 52(ii) and 52(iii) A couch for X-ray &c. treatment includes a centre section 1 and hinged foot and head sections 3, 5, the centre section 1 being carried by a base plate 6 provided with sleeves 7 slidable on the side longitudinal members 8, 9 of a rectangular frame, the transverse members 10, 11 of which are slidable in sleeves 12 mounted on a bearer plate 14. This bearer plate 14 is carried at the upper end of a post 17 which is housed in a pedestal 15 for both vertical movement and angular movement about the vertical axis. The vertical movement is effected through an hydraulic jack arrangement 21 having a pumping lever 22 which has a handle 23 arranged to be turned with respect to the lever 22 to place the ram-either in communication with the liquid supply or to exhaust. A brake operated by lever 18 locks the post 17 against angular movement when desired. A rubber brake pad 19 carried by a cam arrangement 20 which is operable by handles 20<SP>1</SP>, locks the base 6 against sliding movement when desired. The couch is movable on castors 24 and a foot pad 25, slidable on a post 27 for contact with the ground and operable by a lever 34 through a link 33 and toggle levers 28, 29, of which 29 contains a spring, is provided for locking the couch against movement if desired.
