882,351. Bedsteads. THLLS, F. C. Aug. 6, 1960, No. 27349/60. Class 52(2) In an improvement in or modification of the bedstead of Specification 850,516 the upper part 12 of the bed is raised by jack means comprising hydraulic pistons sliding within the legs 14 and carried on the ends 26 of the vertical members of head and foot rails 18, 20, the legs 14 constituting hydraulic cylinders connected by conduits to a pump 32 operated by a handle 34 or to an electrically operated pump. In another modification the end parts 26 are screw-threaded to engage bevel wheels journalled in legs 14 and driven through shafts within the bed frame and rotated by worm drive means 46 on a shaft 48. In both embodiments separately operable drives may be provided for the head and foot of the bed to provide tilt if desired.
