Abstract

1364811 Offshore platforms R H SMITH 27 Nov 1972 [7 Jan 1972] 54709/72 Heading E1H A walking platform comprises a rectangular deck 7 having four raisable and lowerable legs 13 mounted in corner posts 12, and a secondary frame 18 secured to the deck 7 for movement relative thereto fore-and-aft. Side-to-side and obliquely, also having four movable legs 23 mounted in corner posts 22, at least one of the sets of legs 13 and 23 being provided with both mechanical and hydraulic systems for raising and lowering. The legs 13, 23 each comprise a hollow cylinder telescopically receiving therein a foot movable by an hydraulic piston and cylinder, the mechanical system comprising a plurality of racks on each hollow cylinder engaging an internally threaded and externally toothed ring mounted in the corner post and rotated by a worm. Fore-and-aft movement of the frame relative to the deck is obtained by piston and cylinder units obliquely mounted between frame longitudinal members 19 and the corner posts 12. The frame 18 is connected to the deck 7 by four hexagonal supports 31 engaging frame longitudinal members 19 via rollers 32, 34, Fig. 9, and each movable laterally within a rectangular frame 29 attached to a corner post 12 by means of piston and cylinders 39 to produce side-to-side or oblique relative movement. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specification 1,300,511. .
