Abstract
599,868. Snap-action switches. ROSS, F. A., and CRAWFORD, J. Sept. 24, 1945, No. 24712. [Class 38(v)] The operating mechanism of a fuse switch comprises a handle-spindle o carrying a crank q which carries a rotary bearing s for the pin t of a snap-action spring v having a bearing pin u<1> on the movablecontact carrier pivoted at e. As the spindle o is rotated from n<1> to n<2>, the spring v is compressed, and further movement causes a pin r on the crank q to engage an arm x secured to the contact carrier and force it free after the dead-centre line e, s, o is passed. The contacts then snap open and further movement of the pin r under a surface x<1> locks the switch open. Closure of the switch is effected by the spring v, but the pin r presses on an extension w of the arm x to ensure completion of the travel of the moving contacts into base contact clips. Limit stops may be provided for the operating handle.
