Abstract
599,808. Refrigerators. PHILCO RADIO & TELEVISION CORPORATION. Dec. 21,'1944, No. 25646. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1943. [Class 29] A top-access refrigerator cabinet has the evaporator 36 secured by its edge portions to the inner liner 15 so as to divide the cabinet space into two or more storage compartments. Fig. 2 shows a U-shape evaporator with edge flanges 42 fixed by screws 43 to opposite side walls of the metallic liner 15 to form a central freezing compartment C and end compartments A, B. Ridges 35 on the floor of the cabinet co-operate with an outwardly flaring skirt 44 at the bottom of each side wall of the evaporator to prevent drip water collecting beneath the evaporator. The machine unit 28 is housed in a compartment 27 beneath the cabinet and connected to the evaporator by a capillary tube 46 in a groove in the outer cabinet wall 13. The lid 31 is hinged and seats upon a breaker strip 16. In a modification, Fig.. 4, the flat plate evaporator 63 forms a single partition and is carried by a plug 66 closing a slot in the floor of the cabinet and through which pass the capillary tube 75 and suction pipe 76. The side edges of the plate have flanges 69 secured to the lining 57 by screws 71. After removing these screws the cabinet can be lifted away from the unit comprising the evaporator ; compressor 64 and a condenser 65, consisting of a coil secured inside a compressor housing 61 which together with angular feet 62 supports the cabinet.
