[Class 29] Attached to the inner face of the door 23 of an auxiliary compartment 13 separate from the main food storage compartment 12 of a refrigerator is a bin-like receptacle 30 having its own secondary evaporating - condensing refrigerating system, the condenser 42 of which is adapted for heat transmitting connection with cold-producing means 52 in the compartment when the door 23 is closed. The door 23 is hinged at its bottom edge 25 and as shown in Fig. 1 the receptacle 30 is fixed to the inner lining of the door and has evaporator passages 43 communicating with an upper condenser header 42 which, when the door is closed, contacts with the evaporator 52 of a further secondary evaporating-condensing system, the condenser of which is clamped to the ordinary evaporator 17 of'the main food storage chamber. Refrigerant condensed in the condenser 42 evaporates in the passages 43 and the vapour returns to the condenser by a pipe 46. Water condensing on the walls of the receptacle 30 is collected in a pan 55 and led by a pipe 56 to the compressor casing where it is evaporated. In a modification, Fig. 4, the receptacle 30 is detachably connected to the inner face of the door by hooks 40 taking in sockets 39 and the fixed evaporator 52 is arranged on the rear wall of the compartment 13. The receptacle condenser 42 is pressed against the evaporator 52 when the door is closed by a spring portion of the upper hook 40. For transport of food &c. the receptacle 30 is removed from the refrigerator and placed in an insulated box 60, Fig. 5, so that the condenser 45 is pressed against a projection 65 in the wall of an ice container 63. Melt water from the ice is collected in a chamber 63a and may be withdrawn through a tap 66. The receptacle has handles 68 to facilitate removal. U.S.A. Specification 2,222,543 is referred to.
