Abstract

599,115. Staircases. ALLINSON, H. W. Sept. 14, 1945, No. 23695. [Class 20(iv)] A staircase comprises metallic tread supports 1 secured by welding &c. to the side strings 2 with separate treads 6, risers 3 and nosings 4 permanently or detachably secured thereto. As shown the offset portion 1b of the support engages in the slot 4a of the nosing and is connected by screws 5 through the stepped down portion 4b. The tread, which may be reversible, rests on the support with the front rebate 6a or 6b engaged by the shoulder 4c of the nosing. The top edge of the lower riser fits into the slot 4d on the underside of the nosing which permits vertical movement for assembly purposes, while the bottom edge of the upper riser fits between the rear of the tread and the upturned edge 1a of the support, the rebate 3a engaging the rebated rear edge 6b or 6a of the tread. A leaf spring may operate between the riser and the edge 1a of the support.
