Abstract
599,026. Knitting-machines. KANGOL WEAR CO., and HUBER, G. Nov. 6, 1945, No. 22954. [Class 74 (ii)] The needles C of a flat, single bed knitting machine are moved to knitting position by the front edge g of an oscillating or reciprocating bar G, acting through two-armed rocking members B, one arm b<1> of any of which is in the path of the edge g when the second arm b<2> thereof rests on the surface of an endless band, or on one of a series of flats E, passing over an intermittently rotated cylinder D. When the arm b<2> drops through an aperture in the band or flat, the member B is in an inoperative position, shown dotted ; and when the arm b2 drops part-way through a shorter aperture, Fig. 4, the arm b<1> is brought into the path of a second eye g<1>, and the corresponding needle so moved to a " half-needle " position. The arms b<2> may be lifted out of the apertures by suitably shaping their ends, or by a positively actuated bar or rod F. Three stepper cams on the face of a rotating wheel are, as usual, used to omit the first three needles, for forming the crown, at the commencement of each section of a beret or the like. These cams operate on a horizontally sliding finger which slides a plate on the end of the reciprocating or oscillating bar, to alter the effective length of the bar. According to the Provisional Specification, the needle at the end of a group may be moved to the " half-needle " position by means of a lateral projection secured to the upper arm of one member and co-acting with a recess in a corresponding position on the adjacent member.
