Abstract
598,757. Straightening by skew rolling. BIGWOOD & SON, Ltd., J., and PICTON, J. B. Sept. 8, 1945, No. 23183. [Class 83 (iv)] A machine for straightening tubes or rods comprises a plurality of reeling units, each comprising a pair of positively driven rolls with axes disposed on opposite sides of the work and with work-engaging surfaces shaped so that the work passing between them is bent laterally, these units being mounted in series upon a common bed so that the work is passed through all of them. The construction and operation of each unit comprising a pair of rolls is as described in Specification 598,756. As shown, the machine comprises three units, the two end ones-being adjustable longitudinally by screw 3 which may be coupled at 5 to a power-driven shaft 6. In addition, the second and third units are adjustable transversely by means of screws 9 operated by hand levers 11.
