Abstract
598,406. Service conduits in buildings. BRIGGS & SONS, Ltd., W., and MARCH, G. A. Nov. 17, 1944, No. 22838. [Class 20(ii)] [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXXVI] A fitting for permitting the entry of electric, gas, water &c. services into a waterproofed building comprises a sleeve or tube 1 having a flange 2 welded thereto at a point intermediate of its length, one or both ends of the tube being screwthreaded to receive screwed flanges. The fitting is applied to the wall 5 of the building so that the flange 2 is pressed against a jointing ring 7 of bitumen-loaded hessian applied to an inner layer 6<11> of bitumenloaded hessian or felt constituting part of the waterproofing of the wall, heat being applied to unite the flange 2 with the ring 7. A flange 4<11> may be screwed on the tube at the internal surface of the wall to tighten the joint. A ring 8 of bitumen-loaded hessian, of larger diameter than the ring 7 is then applied over the outer face of the flange 2, the joint being completed by the outer layer 6<1> of the wall waterproofing, and a collar 9 of bitumen-loaded hessian, all welded in position by heat. A skin wall 10 may be erected for the protection of the waterproofing on the structural wall 5, and an outer flange 4<1> may be screwed on the tube 1 to clamp the joint.
