[Class 38(v)] A synchronous motor M connected to a supply N over breakers I, II is disconnected on arcing-faults and re-connected in response to the voltage across the opened breaker I. On fault, the current transformer a energises overload relay e which (i) energises over contacts c, the opening coil A of the breaker I and (ii) makes the circuit of a re-switching relay f. The breaker II also opens but is arranged to reclose almost at once. When the delay of relay f expires, its contacts close, but the circuit of the re-closing coil E of breaker I is not made, over contacts d, until a voltage relay g releases at the minimum amplitude of the voltage across the opened breaker I, as measured by voltage transformer b.
