Abstract
588,068. Protective cut-out arrangements. CHAMBERLAIN & HOOKHAM, Ltd., JAMES S., BRAINES, W. F., and SLINGSBY, S. Jan. 27, 1945, No. 2171. [Class 38 (v)] Apparatus for controlling a polyphase circuitbreaker, so that it opens in the event of a persistent earth fault but not in the case of transient earth currents, comprises two leakage-current carrying coils g, h, of which g has a pair of normally closed contacts i and is operable at a lower current than h, which has normally open contacts k, m, respectively in series with contacts i and shunted across coil g. On the occurrence of a fault, coils g, k, are energised, and first contacts i and then k, m, are operated, the closing of contacts m short-circuiting coil g, whereby contacts i reclose after a predetermined delay, and energise the trip circuit. Energisation of the latter by transient currents is prevented by the de-energisation of coil h before contacts i reclose. Operation of the apparatus by tranformer unbalance or through overload may be prevented by closure of contacts s of a third contactor r whereby the supply to coils g, h is shortcircuited.
