Abstract
838,513. Protective cut-out arrangements. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. July 16, 1957 [May 1, 1956], No. 13389/56. Class 38 (5). In the earth leakage protective arrangement of Specification 675,514, the lock-out relay 12 is rendered effective to prevent closure or reclosure of a circuit-breaker 6 only after the elapse of a time interval after opening of the circuitbreaker, the interval being such as to prevent incorrect " locking-out " due to capacity currents, arcing at the circuit-breaker contacts or the back E.M.F. of the motor 1. The relay 12 may be energized from a core-balance transformer 9 to trip the circuit-breaker in the event of an earth fault and re-energized to lock-out the circuit-breaker by the current flowing from a source 13, 14 in a local circuit including the relay 12, contacts 17, star-connected rectifiers 15 and the fault path. The contacts 17 are auxiliary contacts of the circuit-breaker 6, being closed by a spring 19 against the action of a time delay device 18 when the circuit-breaker is opened. The device 18 may be a dashpot and provide a delay of two to three seconds.
