Abstract
598,317. Pneumatic apparatus. SUMMERS, K. E., and NEWALL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. May 16, 1945, No. 12354. [Class 8 (ii.)] [Also in Groups XXIII and XXIX] In an apparatus for controlling pneumaticallyactuated mechanisms for operating machine tools &c., a pneumatically-operated actuating valve controls the supply of working fluid to the mechanism, the valve moving from an initial stationary setting in which it interrupts the supply of fluid to the mechanism, through a momentary setting in which it allows a flow of fluid to effect a small movement of the mechanism, to a stationary setting in which it again interrupts the supply. The mechanism 13 is supplied with fluid from a throttle valve 25, through a conduit 24, valve casing 16 and conduit 15. The casing 16 houses a valve 17 in a cylinder 18 connected by conduits 28, 29 to a valve 30 through which each conduit is connected to pressure and exhaust alternately. As the valve 17 moves from one end of its cylinder to the other, the passages 22 and 23 are momentarily put into communication with each other so that a supply of working fluid is able to flow to effect a movement of the mechanism 13. The valve 25 can be replaced by a spring-loaded byepass valve. The valve 17 can be replaced by a rotary valve actuated by a fluid-operated or electrical or mechanical relay.
