Abstract

598,272. Vaporizing - - apparatus. STEVENS, A. H. (Odac Manufacturing Co.). Aug. 29, 1945, No. 22220. [Class 81 (i)] A vaporizing device comprises a liquid container 10 having an open top, an adjustable closure 26 providing vents of variable area, a porous pad 16, means (such as a plate 15 provided. with a recessed portion 21 having a central aperture 22 and equipped with lugs 20 to prevent rotation thereof) for supporting the pad below the vents, and a capillary member, e.g. wicks 14, depending from the pad into the container. As shown, variation of the area of the vents is obtained by varying the engagement between lugs 28 on the closure and lugs 25 on plate 15. In another embodiment, the closure is provided with vertically extending apertures and tetescopically engages the container. The porous pad, which may comprise a rigid porous body provided with an integrally depending capillary portion, may be supported within the container by a vessel which when transparent, may be raised by engaging it through a hole provided in the bottom of the container to ascertain the level of the supply without removing the vessel from the container.
