Abstract
598,236. Incendiary compositions. THIRSK, H. R., FLANDERS, J. S., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 2, 1944, No. 21452. [Class 9 (ii)] A process for the production of compacted incendiary composition comprises incorporating the incendiary composition of magnesium or aluminium and an alkali metal nitrate or an alkali earth metal nitrate in a solution of nitrocellulose in polynitrotoluene, the nitrocellulose increasing the viscosity and preventing segregation of the constituents of the composition. The quantity of composition is between 55 and 65 per cent. The resultant compositions may be moulded at temperatures below 80.5‹ C. Di- or trinitrotoluenes are used. In one example, diethyl-diphenyl-urea acts as a nitrocellulose stabilizer and aluminium stearate as a mould lubricant. The metals and nitrates are preferably incorporated separately.
