598,214. Shaft couplings. BARTON, C. A. Sept. 19, 1945, No. 24284. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1944. [Class 80(ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In tramcars and electric locomotives in which the motor 8 is coupled directly to the driving-wheels 3, the motor shaft is formed in three sections A, B, C connected by rigid couplings each formed in two halves 5, 6 fixed to adjacent sections, the arrangement being such that the centre section is separable by movement in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the shaft. The halves of each coupling are provided respectively with a dovetail groove 16 and an interengaging projection 14, the two halves being rigidly connected by eight bolts 9 situated in recesses 18. Each half coupling is secured to the tapered end of its associated shaft by a key 11 and lock-nut 12.
