[Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] A focusing magnet for an electron discharge device 1 is made in two parts 3 and 4 which are slidable along the section 2 at right angles to the direction of the field so that the direction of the lines of force may be inclined as indicated at 6 and made parallel to the direction of the beam. Alternatively, as shown in Fig. 2, the magnet parts 7, 8 may surround the tube 1 and be fixed together by screws 9, 10 which move in oval slots shown in Fig. 3. The magnets may be electromagnets having cores of soft iron with suitable magnetizing windings. Specification 588,247 is referred to.
