Abstract
597,745. Thermal switches. HEARN, H. G. May 17, 1946. No. 14962. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group VI] Apparatus for making tea &c. comprises a pivoted platform 1 supporting a boiler 3 and teapot 4 both of which are heated electrically at a predetermined time by the closing of a switch actuated by a clock. Boiling water is forced by steam pressure from the boiler through a pipe 15 into the tea pot causing the platform to tilt and actuate a micro-switch 6 which cuts off the heating current and closes further circuits to ring a bell &c. The micro-switch is shown in Fig. 2 and comprises a metal member 11 capable of assuming two positions. A stud 10 depending from a blade 9 abuts against the member 11. A spring 7 presses against the blade 9 so that only a small additional force is required to actuate the switch. When the platform 1 tilts, a projection 8 on its under side depresses the blade 9 and actuates the switch which will not return to its original position till a knob 12 on a lever 13 is pressed which causes the end e of the lever to lift the blade 9 against the pressure of the spring 7.
