457,944. Tea - brewing apparatus. LAWTON, N., 5, Wessington Terrace, New Washington, Co. Durham. Aug. 22, 1935, No. 23551. [Class 129] In apparatus for making tea at a predetermined time, the teapot is mounted on a movable platform which is depressed when boiling water from the kettle is syphoned over, to cut off the supply of heat. An alarm clock 27 is set at the desired time and the slotted knob 15 engaged with the alarm winder 27. When the predetermined time is reached, the winder 27 turns the rod 16 till stopped by the engagement of the plate 17 on the rod with the stop 19. This causes the switch 23 to make the contacts 21, 22, completing the circuit through the lighter filament 25 and opening the gas cock 10 by the plate 17. When the water in the kettle 29 boils, it syphons into the teapot 7. When very little water has entered the teapot, its weight overcomes that of the weight 8 and tilts the lever 5 about the pivot 3. This causes a Bowden wire 20 to move the stop 19 out of the path of the plate 17 so that the winder 27 can then turn the rod 16 till the plate 17 encounters the fixed stop 33. This causes the cock 10 to be turned off and the contact 21, 22 to be broken.. The water continues to enter the teapot by syphon action. A vent is provided in the lid 30 to ensure that only boiling water is syphoned to the teapot. The knob 15 may be turned by hand if desired.
