Abstract

595,525. Furnaces. DETROIT STOKER CO. July.5. 1945. No. 17223. Convention date, Feb. 16. [Class 51 (i)] The front end of a chain grate is provided with an air-seal comprising members F which are hooked at F<1> to engage an opposed hooked part E<1> of a casting E. The hooked engagement, which is retained against displacement by a transversely withdrawable bar H. permits pivotal movements of the members F to accommodate irregularities in the chain grate. The members F are preferably formed with a tuyere port F<5> at the end of a channel F<2> in each member. The space between the tuyeres and the bridge wall D is filled with a flexible packing G, e.g., of asbestos, supported on a plate D<3> extending between the water header D<2> and the casting E.
