Abstract

595,081. Locomotive boilers. LOCOMOTIVE FIREBOX CO. Feb. 6, 1945, No. 3040. Convention date, March 17, 1939. [Class 123 (ii)] A locomotive boiler firebox is fitted with tubular water-circulation elements, such as 25, spaced apart longitudinally and extending transversely thereof, each affording at least two flow passages 33, 33 which extend from water inlets in opposite side sheets 11 of the firebox to separate outlets in the crown sheet 10 thereof and have, for a portion of their length, a common separating wall or diaphragm 32. As shown, the element 25 is in the form of an arched lower tubular portion defining legs 28 welded to the side sheets 11, a junction portion 30 provided with the wall 32, and two spacedapart upper tubular members 29 welded to the crown sheet 10, and it is preferably made from a pair of front and rear sheet-metal counterparts of substantially semi-circular cross-section which are butt-welded together.
