Abstract
630,943. Thermic syphons for locomotive boilers. LOCOMOTIVE FIREBOX CO. July 31, 1947, No. 20765. Convention date, June 14, 1939. [Class 123(ii)] A thermic syphon 21, for location vertically within the combustion chamber of a locomotive boiler firebox, comprises a ,lower inlet leg 22, spaced outlet arms 23, 23, preferably of the same diameter as the leg 22, and an intermediate junction or crotch 24. The outlet arms may be parallel to one another or, as shown, divergent upwardly, and both the arms and and the leg respectively, are welded within holes in an extension of the crown sheet 10 of the firebox and in a diaphragm 26 provided in the bottom sheet 16 of the combustion chamber. The syphon may be made from a pair of counterpart stampings welded together at the abutting edges 29.
