Abstract
594,870. Inductor - alternators. MANDL, A., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. July 3, 1945, No. 16921. [Class 35] In an inductoralternator wherein the stator teeth do not all register simultaneously with the rotor teeth the stator and rotor are split into two or more axially displaced portions so arranged -that when the stator and rotor teeth are in a lowreluctance position at a part of the circumferential periphery, the teeth in the axially aligned part of the other (or another) portion are in a high-reluctance position. The Figure shows one half of a machine divided into two portions in a common casing with common exciting coils 14, 15 giving two exciting poles divided into two portions 8, 9 and 11, 12 by slots 10, 13 accommodating the A.C. coils 16, 17 which are separate in the two halves. The pole halves are so toothed that the teeth on parts 8 and 11 register with rotor teeth, while those on parts 9 and 12 register with slots whereby the flux axis alternates between AA<1> and BB<1>. The other rotor half is angularly displaced by half a rotor tooth pitch so that the teeth on poles halves 9, 12 on the other part register with the rotor teeth when teeth on halves 8, 11 register on the first part so that the simultaneous flux changes would be between BB<1> and AA<1>.
