Abstract
594,542. Harvesting-machines. BRUNSKILL, H. Nov. 2, 1944, No. 21515. [Class 6 (iii)] Relates to harvesting and like agricultural machines of the kind having a vertical cutting device in addition to the usual horizontal cutter. According to the invention, the knife bar of the vertical cutting device is reciprocated by crank means and connecting rods from the driving means of the travelling band of the horizontal platform. In the construction shown, the vertical cutting device comprises a finger bar 7 carrying fingers 8, a knife bar having knife blades 9 and knife keepers, and is of substantially similar construction to the usual form of cutter. The lower end of this cutting device has a U-shaped supporting bracket 11 for securing it to the harvesting machine and has bushings 13 providing a bearing for a crank axle 12. The crank 14 is connected with the knife bar by a rod 15 and the axle is fitted with a rocker arm 16 whereby the knife bar is reciprocated. A rod 17 is adjustably connected at one end to the rocker arm 16, and at the other end to a toggle plate 18 rockable within a pair of spaced bracket plates 19. An adjustable rod 20 is also connected to the toggle plate 18 and to a stud 21 affixed to the drive sprocket 6 of the platform canvas roller.
