Abstract
594,211. Mounting chucks. DEAN, SMITH, & GRACE, Ltd., PRIDGEON, H. and BINNS, A. June 29, 1945, No. 16591. [Class 83 (iii)] The spindle-nose of a lathe &c. is provided with a number of radial bores to receive spring- loaded eccentric-headed plungers registering with corresponding radial bores in a chuck, whereby rotation of the plungers locks the chuck to the machine-spindle. The nose is flanged as at 2 and houses the plungers 4. The chuck body 11 is spigoted on the spindle and has an annular extension 13, which may be integral with the body, provided with radial bores corresponding to the eccentric heads 7 of the plungers. Each plunger is formed with a helical recess engaged by a snug 9 located in the flange of the spindle-nose,. which causes the plunger when rotated to rise and engage the corresponding hole in the chuck. A button 10 relates the chuck to the spindle-nose to facilitate alignment of the radial bores.
