[Class 38 (ii)] For reducing noise in a choke which may form part of the control gear for gas discharge lamps, one or more insulation layers b placed between laminations of the core a extend across an air-gap between one end of a central limb carrying the choke coil and a yoke. The insulating layers b may be of fibre pressboard or a plastic and of the shape shown in Fig. 3 with a cut b<2> arranged adjacent the root of the middle limb of each lamination. Plastic wax varnish or thermosetting varnish with or without fibre filling may occupy the air-gap spaces between the insulating layers, and the whole stack is bolted between two end plates.
