Abstract
593,422. Roof trusses; horticultural frames. SMITH, P. A., and CUNNINGHAM, A. D. Dec. 19, 1944, No. 25484. [Classes 20(i), 20(ii) and 20(iv)] Relates to trusses for the roof of buildings and cloches or cold frames and consists in a triangular frame comprising three separable members a, band c held together by a bolt d tensioned between the apex and the transverse member c, abutments h on the side members a, b engaging the transverse member to prevent lateral separation. The top of the bolt d may engage wooden or metal abutments e, f on the side members, or it may pass through the apex and engage the upper edges of the side members. The abutments h may be pins or wooden blocks. The abutments e, f and h may all be comprised in an integral strip secured to the side members. A ridge piece may be added, held between the side members, in which case the bolt d may have an eyelet at its upper end to engage hooks secured to the upper ends of the side members. For a cloche, Fig. 9, two trusses are provided, one at each end, joined by a ridge member k. The glass sheets may be held in place by the flashing m.
