Abstract

Alloys having good corrosion resistance have the following composition: Ni 20.00-48.00 per cent, Cu 0.50-15.00 per cent, Cr 0.50-10.00 per cent, Mo 0.50-4.00 per cent, Fe the remainder, the sum of the copper, chromium and molybdenum always exceeding 7 per cent. Alloys giving good results for most purposes are within the following more restricted ranges: Ni 26.00-42.00 per cent, Cu 4.00-15.00 per cent, Cr 3.00-4.00 per cent, Mo 0.50-4.00 per cent, Fe the remainder; and also Ni 35.00-48.00 per cent, Cu 4.00-15.00 per cent, Cr 1.00-6.00 per cent, Mo 0.50-4.00 per cent, Fe the remainder, the sum of the copper, chromium and molybdenum always exceeding 7 per cent. A particularly suitable alloy contains approximately 42 per cent nickel, 5 per cent copper, 3 per cent chromium, 1 per cent molybdenum and iron the remainder. Any of the alloys may contain in addition up to 4.00 per cent manganese and/or up to 3.00 per cent aluminium.
