Abstract

593,187. Valve circuits for frequency multiplying. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 8, 1944, No. 17230. Convention date, July 14, 1942.. [Class 40 (v)] A thermionic frequency multiplier, in which the output circuit is tuned to an harmonic of the input frequency, has an input circuit consisting of two parts, the first being tuned to the input frequency and the second to the harmonic so as to form a low impedance shunt path across the first part at the harmonic frequency and avoid the effects of feedback through the valve. In Fig. 1, valve 10 has input circuit 11 consisting of parallel tuned circuit 14 resonant at input frequency and series tuned circuit 17, 18 resonant at the desired harmonic. Anode circuit 12 is tuned to some harmonic and feedback through the valve escapes to earth through low impedance path 17, 18. In a modification, a push-pull circuit is used, Fig. 2 (not shown). In Fig. 3, resonant lines 54, 55 constitute the input circuit whose frequency depends on length X. Condenser 56, adjusted a distance Y along the resonant lines, constitutes, in conjunction with stray capacities, the series tuned circuit offering a low impedance shunt path at the chosen harmonic frequency.
