Abstract
An aqueous dispersion of a butadienestyrene copolymer containing a soluble soap as dispersing agent is treated with an aqueous solution of an aluminium salt, resulting in the coagulation of the synthetic rubber and in the uniform precipitation therein of the reaction product of the aluminium salt and the soap. Suitable soaps are the sodium, potassium and ammonium salts of oleic, stearic, palmitic, lauric or other aliphatic monocarboxylic acids. Specified aluminium salts are the sulphate and chloride and alums such as potassium aluminium sulphate. The reaction product of the aluminium salt and the soap consists of a mixture of a basic aluminium salt of a fatty acid, fatty acid and aluminium hydroxide. Polymerization of the copolymer is described, using a mercaptan and an oxidizing catalyst in aqueous emulsion.ALSO:An aqueous dispersion of a butadiene-styrene copolymer containing a soluble soap as dispersing agent is treated with an aqueous solution of an aluminium salt, resulting in the coagulation of the synthetic rubber and in the uniform precipitation therein of the reaction product of the aluminium salt and the soap. This reaction product which acts as a compounding ingredient consists of a mixture of a basic aluminium salt of a fatty acid, a fatty acid and aluminium hydroxide. Suitable soaps are the sodium, potassium and ammonium salts of oleic, stearic, palmitic, lauric or other aliphatic monocarboxylic acids. Specified aluminium salts are the sulphate chloride and alums such as potassium aluminium sulphate.
