[Class 29] A vapour generator unit, for absorption refrigerating apparatus, is encased by heat insulation 11 within a container 10, and comprises a heat source positioned in a closed pipe 14 which is arranged to provide heat by conduction to a column of absorption solution contained within conduit 22, the supply of heat being restricted to the middle portion of the liquid column, that is intermediate the levels I and II. The strong liquid flowing from the absorber through pipe 18 enters the liquid heat exchanger, which is formed as a closed helix around the lower aperture 13 of the heating pipe 14, and is conveyed by an inner pipe to the pump 19, absorbing heat from the downwardly flowing degasified solution from the liquid column which is being conveyed to the absorber through the outer coils of the liquid heat exchanger and pipe 17. The pump 19 maintains a liquid column in the conduit 22, thus between the boiler level 25 and level II the liquid is of high concentration and lower temperature thereby forming a column for rectifying the vapours.
