592,817. Domestic fireplaces. JELFFS, A. H., and CROSBEE, M. May 25, 1945, Nos. 13110 and 20973. [Class 126] A fireplace unit fitted in front of a fireplace, comprises a, frame 11, Fig. 1, having an opening 11e and containing guides for two vertically sliding members, the first 15, carrying an auxiliary heating means 16, and the second comprising a plain or reticulous panel 30 serving as a blower plate or fireguard. Both members are adapted to close the fireplace opening or to be disposed clear of it. The auxiliary heating means may be electrical or gas burning ; in the former case, the current supply is taken through a plug 27, Fig. 2, mounted on a sliding rod 24 from a socket 28. Vertical guide rods 14 are housed with counter-balance means in vertical side compartments 11d having ventilating louvres 11 g, f, j, h in the walls. The member 15 which is arcuate is supported by its upper portions from sliders 18 on the guide rods. The frame is formed of sheet-metal pressings and includes a hood portion 11b for concealing the raised members. A third panel 31 may be provided, being plain, when the second panel is reticulous and vice versa.
