Abstract
592,806. Mechanism for converting rotary into reciprocating motion. CALVER, C. M. G. March 15, 1945, No. 6569. [Class 80(i)] [Also in Group II] The table 32 of a testing machine, particularly for testing aircraft instruments, is vibrated in both a horizontal plane and a vertical plane. The vertical vibration is imparted to a frame 31 carrying the table 32 by an eccentric shaft 17 mounted in bearings on the main frame 10 of the machine and driven from an electric motor through bevel gearing 14, 15. The shaft 17 carries an eccentric sleeve 24 which can be adjusted relative to the eccentric portion of the shaft by a clutch device 37, 38 operated by a handle 82 to vary the effective eccentricity of the combined shaft and sleeve and thus the amplitude of the vibration imparted to the frame 31. A second shaft 18 and adjustable sleeve 44 driven by gears 14, 16 provides the horizontal vibration of the table 32 with respect to the frame 31. A flexible shaft drive may be provided for connection to the apparatus under test.
