591,966. Electric gas heaters. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., COCKE, K. J. R., HARTLEY, A. W. E., and MARTIN, R. I. March 16, 1945, No. 6668. [Class 39 (iii)] An air heater producing a jet of hot air or nitrogen for joining edges of thermoplastic material comprises an elongated tubular housing 1 through one end of which is introduced a tubular casing 8 carrying a nozzle 3 and spaced within the housing and containing an electric resistance heater 9, a handle 6 on one side of the housing, so that air introduced under pressure into the handle enters the annular space 7 and passes over the heater to the nozzle. The resistance wires 9 are supported in apertures 17 in fireclay members 16 having a central bore 18 into which projects an extended portion 19 of a cruciform member with notched ends 20 supporting the inner casing 8 centrally against a shoulder 11 on a disc 10 within the housing. The casing 8 carries a nozzle 3 thermally insulated by glass wool from the nozzle 2 and is removably endwise as a unit on removal of an end cap 4 on the housing. A removable hollow insulating handle 6 holds against, a side projection 28 on the housing a disc 25 carrying an air inlet pipe 23 and supply leads 24, 27 the latter being connected to the heater through terminals 22 on the notched members 20.
