589,891. Condensers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., BARNARD, R. M., MORONEY, M. J., and WOOLTORTON, E. March 23, 1945, No. 7366. Drawings to Specification. [Class 37] A main fixed condenser embedded in protecting insulation and a silvered mica &c. padding condenser mounted outside the insulation are housed within the same outer casing, the final capacity of the two condensers connected in parallel being adjusted by removing part of the silver deposit before closing the casing. In examples, an asphalt which is solid at room temperatures is poured into the casing to cover the main condenser, or a phenol-formaldehyde &c. or polystyrene &c. insulating compound may be moulded around it. The two condensers may be separated by a sheet of cardboard impregnated with a phenol-formaldehyde condensation product. Metal foils connect the electrodes of the padding condenser to the terminal wires of the fixed condenser, the wires passing through and being soldered to apertured tags secured to the cardboard. The main condenser may be a stacked silvered mica condenser clamped between plates held together by screws.
