Abstract

726,958. Electric condensers. GLOBEUNION Inc. Oct. 13, 1952, No. 25593/52. Class 37. In a trimming condenser of the kind in which a ceramic disc carries an electrode on one face and its other face rotates in frictional contact with a stator electrode, a very thin high dielectric constant ceramic disc 12, e.g. of Steratite or containing titanates, is used, and inset in a moulded head 10 having a dielectric constant less than half that of the disc 12. The ceramic disc has on its embedded face a silvered segment-shaped area 14, Fig. 4 (not shown) engaged by the head 18 of a conducting spindle 16 which is secured in position with the disc 12 by the moulding material 10. The spindle 16 extends through a base 24 moulded from the same low dielectric constant material as the head 10. The substantially semicircular stator electrode 26, Fig. 3 (not shown), is inset in the front face of the base 24 in frictional contact with the unsilvered face of the ceramic disc 12. The stator electrode extends through the base 24 to a terminal tag 28, and a bent-over portion 40 of a torque spring 38 which holds the stator and rotor together, forms a terminal tag for the rotor. The ceramic disc may be semicircular in shape, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), to reduce the minimum capacitance and in another embodiment the condenser is secured to'an insulating mounting-plate, Fig. 5 (not shown), by the torque spring.
