Abstract
720,514. Electric condensers. BRITISH DIELECTRIC RESEARCH, Ltd. Aug. 12, 1953 [Aug. 12, 1952], No. 20274/52. Class 37. A capacitor unit comprises a glass and a ceramic capacitor connected in parallel so that their temperature variations of capacity cancel each other. The main capacitor consists of a sandwich of glass dielectric sheets interleaved with metal foil electrodes 3, the whole being sintered to form a single unit, alternate foils being brought out to terminal wires 4, 5 at opposite ends of the unit. The auxiliary capacitor 6, consisting of a disc of high permittivity ceramic (e.g. a sintered mixture of calcium and magnesium titanates) with metallized surfaces is mounted above, and spaced from the main unit by rigid connections 7, 8 to its terminal wires 4, 5. The.main constituent of the ceramic is one of or a mixture of magnesium, barium calcium, and strontium titanates and rutile. The whole assembly is embedded in synthetic resin 9 such as " Araldite " (Registered Trade Mark) in a case 10 of moulded cresol-formaldehyde resin.
