[Class 46] In a method of separating a substance from a liquid in which it is dissolved or dispersed by draining a column of foam formed above the liquid, as described in Specification 535,099, a movement of rotation about a vertical axis is imparted to the foam to avoid turbulence and re-mixing of the layers of foam. In the arrangement shown liquid in a vessel 2 is agitated by compressed gas passing through a perforated partition 4 whereby foam is formed on a column 1. A shaft 5 mounted in the column is rotated by an electric motor 8, the shaft carrying arms 6 provided with blades 7.
