[Classes 23 and 86] Mixing apparatus for liquids for immersion in the liquid under treatment comprises a stationary apertured outer casing within which is rotated with small radial clearance therefrom a perforated inner chamber bearing blades to impel liquid outwardly through the perforated walls thereof, the apertures of the outer casing forming cutting and shearing edges inclined against the direction of rotation of the inner chamber. In one embodiment the outer casing 21, Fig. 2, having vertical slots 28 in its circumferential wall to form knife edges 29, Fig. 3, and supported by rods 22 from the frame of the driving motor, is apertured to freely admit a shaft 16 which rotates an inner chamber 18 having a perforated circumferential wall spaced by a small radial clearance 27 from the slotted wall of the outer casing. The cap 17 of the rotor, which is formed with three spokes 24 shaped as downwardly acting propellers, also supports within the chamber four centrifuging blades 23, the combined action of which propellors and blades forces the liquid downwardly through the holes 25 and outwardly through the walls of the chamber and outer casing. In an alternative construction, Fig. 1, not shown, a second perforated chamber is contained concentrically within a perforated chamber having the required small radial clearance from the outer casing, and liquid is forced into this second chamber by a downwardly acting propellor attached to the shaft above the outer casing.
